A little story....I know when I'm in trouble when hubby gives me The Look. He knows me well enough by now and understands that there are things I do a certain way. I will not freeze anything without first wrapping in a layer of wax paper, then aluminum foil and then placed in a Ziploc baggie. We will never dip below the mandatory 6 rolls of individually wrapped toilet paper. In the winter I must sleep with my entire head covered and only my nose peeking out dressed in my most sexiest of outfits (ratty t-shirt, sweatpants and socks).
The Look is not one of shock or of horror, it’s more of bewilderment -- although immense bewilderment associated with the realization that he actually married me years ago without fully understanding how far I will go to do things my way (and it's too late to back out now).
The reason this comes up is hubby is going on a road trip with a friend. His friend packs NOTHING! He brings the basics clothes, underwear, toothbrush. It’s not that his friend is cheap or anything – he just doesn’t think of it. The trip is not for another week – but I have been shopping for snacks for the last two weeks. It’s like I am shopping for my own trip. I already have two bags of snacks put aside. Hubby and I were going over things he is bringing and notice the two additional bags and I had to tell him what it was. That’s when I got THE LOOK. He didn’t have to say anything before I started to explain that he needed (NEEDED) these items for the trip as his friend is not going to be bringing anything and I had to buy for two (I actually packed for a busload of hungry backpackers after a trek up the Himalaya’s, but let’s not get technical here). My stance on the snacks was…”You never know what you are going to be in the mood for”. Followed up by “It’s a long trip, this will save you from stopping”.
I pack for road trips and I am not talking about just clothes and the basics. I am talking snacks. I can not leave my house with out some type of something to snack on. It doesn’t matter if we are going 15 minutes up the road to our parents homes or a 15 hour drive to South Carolina. THERE WILL BE SNACKS.
I am not sure why – but as soon as I get in the car – I have to have something. Being on a diet for this past year has limited my car snack consumption where I have had to rely on sugar free gum, mints and the like. I usually like to have a minimum of a candy bar, licorice and then something salty like pretzels.
Needless to say we have not gone on any long car trips within the past year – I would have had to blog all the junk I ate!
I like to be prepared – I actually bring snacks on the plane too. I have for years. One time I took a business trip with one of my old bosses and he got us bumped to first class (my first and last time there – not because of what I did) pretty much as soon as we got our seats, I pulled out a pack of Pop-Tarts and he looked at me (almost the same look I get from hubby, but with a little more horror) and declared we were in first class and you just don’t do that (I was thinking he was embarrassed but then I convinced myself he probably wanted Pop Tarts too and was just covering himself by saying that because he took a pack from me - and yes, I packed more than one).
Anyway….I am always going to like snacks. Whether I am on a diet or not, going on a trip or hanging home. That’s why I say – you can diet – but you can not deprive yourself if you want something. You just have to have the discipline to get back on track after you splurge.
I hope your diet and exercise plans are on track and you are happy with your progress so far!
Have a WONDERFUL NIGHT!!
If you really want something, you can figure out how to make it happen
